In the old days, lawyers scribbled in red pen or dictated and typists typed. A lot of law firms still work that way.

We think that's just a waste of time, so we cut out a link in the chain and work on the keyboard ourselves. Typing may be slower than dictating, but it allows more time to think carefully about what the contract should say. It also means that the document tends to be right first time, and can be printed or sent out electronically there and then. And at Freedmans Law, documents don't lie waiting in a typing pool for hours or days...

We're also great advocates of the old-fashioned phone call. Lawyers love emails because of the audit trail they create – but we usually prefer to talk, then send one email recording a conversation. We think it's quicker, more accurate and friendlier than playing "email tennis".
